ONX Estate is a 122-acre ranch property located in the newly dedicated Templeton Gap District AVA of Paso Robles, California. The Estate is nestled in a valley that was cut by the Santa Rita Creek, which defines the Southern border of the property.
The soils at ONX Estate are a complex mix of rocky alluviums deposited upon the sloping terraces where the vines are planted. Large rocks mostly of calcareous sedimentary origin are scattered throughout the site. Sandy, gravelly loams define most of the property and provide an excellent medium for vine roots to proliferate. Few soils in the area are as unique, so in order to take advantage of this fact, we’ve planted a wide variety of small blocks - each with its own variety and rootstock matched to the intricate nature of its site.
So far twenty-six acres of the estate have been planted with Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Tempranillo, Zinfandel, Primitivo, Malbec, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc and Grenache Blanc grapes. In addition we are currently in the process of expanding the vineyard and will be planting sixteen more acres in 2015. This includes both increasing our plantings of the grapes we currently grow as well as adding Petit Verdot and Moschofilero to the portfolio.
